The Rambutan Program

"Clean Beauty" as a web search term has risen 85% since 2017, according to a Google Trends report. As millennials’ spending power continues to grow, and as more and more consumers are looking for cosmetic products containing natural ingredients that are sustainably and ethically sourced, the demand for sustainable ingredients with a unique story grows as well.

Following its success with the Argan program, BASF Care Creations developed an environmentally-friendly and socially-responsible production of rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum), an exotic fruit tree from Asia. The Rambutan program implements the first-ever certified organic orchards of rambutan in Vietnam. It capitalizes on every part of the fruit and tree to minimize waste and maximize the sources of income for local farmers. The program aims to ensure Vietnamese workers involved in the production receive higher incomes and safer working conditions, as well as to foster more ecological agricultural practices

Using extracts from the rambutan fruit and tree, BASF developed three preservative-free, COSMOS-approved, cosmetic ingredients of 100% natural origin (ISO 16128):

NEPHORIA™ - a natural alternative to Retinol

NEPHYDRAT™ - provides intense hydration and skin barrier protection

RAMBUVITAL™ - provides hair and scalp hydration and environmental protection

The Rambutan program delivers powerful yet natural and organic active ingredients, and ensures positive social and environmental impacts along the value chain.
