Clear gels are developed by first hydrolyzing anhydride groups to diacid form by heating and then adjusting Ph with organic or inorganic bases to obtain desired viscosity. It is characterized by low surface tension and a high spreading coefficient. Due to their flexible polymer backbone, dimethicones have high permeability to gases (e.g. water vapor, oxygen), which allows respiration of the skin.
