Specialized milling processes are employed to retain the high aspect ratio of these needle-shaped products. The fine-grained, high aspect ratio, wollastonites are specially developed for applications demanding increased strength, scratch and heat resistance. In plastics, Casiflux® FG 20 is used in automotive applications such as passenger compartment trims, instrument panels, bumpers, air conditioner/heater housings, battery support trays, wheel covers etc. In addition, wollastonite is used as a partial replacement for glass fibre in reinforced plastics and resin composite applications. In paints and coatings, reduced ‘mud cracking’ is achieved with Casiflux® FG 20. Both the reinforcement and passivating ability of wollastonite are successfully harnessed in formulating anti-corrosion paints, whilst increased crack and chip resistance is achieved in powder coatings.
