The reactive acrylic group can be copolymerized with many different unsaturated organic monomers such as vinyl monomers, organoacrylic monomers, styrene, or modified styrenes (copolymerization parameters e = 0.07, Q = 2.7). This yields polymers bearing pendant trimethoxysilyl groups, which can serve several different purposes. These groups can render a system cross-linkable upon exposure to water such as atmospheric moisture or steam. Diluted solutions of KBM-974 are useful primers for bonding organic materials to inorganic surfaces.
