ALKATERGE®-E Nonvolatile Surface Active Agent is highly soluble in most organic liquids, but is only very slightly soluble in water. Even so, a concentration of 0.001% by weight of ALKATERGE®-E in water will reduce its surface tension to about 40 dynes per centimeter. Although it does not lower the surface tension of mineral oil, the presence of 0.1% in a mineral oil reduces its interfacial tension against water.
ALKATERGE®-E will react with mineral acids to form salts, some of which are water soluble and produce stable foams. These salts of mineral acids or the salts of lower monobasic organic acids, are very effective wetting agents. Such salts in aqueous systems gradually hydrolyze the oxazoline ring to the amide structure. It forms oil-soluble soaps with the higher fatty acids. The wetting power of these salts and soaps is frequently increased by the addition of alcohols or glycols. Solutions of the salts of ALKATERGE®-E may be used as penetrants in the paper and textile industries, and in the formulation of metal cleaners. view less

ALKATERGE®-T Surface Active Agent is only slightly soluble in water. At ordinary room temperature, ALKATERGE®-T is a waxy solid which is highly soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons and lower alcohols or ketones, moderately soluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons, and miscible with most vegetable oils. In its liquid state, it is miscible with almost all organic liquids. This product is useful as a surface active agent which is indicated by the fact that 0.1% in mineral oil reduces the interfacial surface tension against water approximately 95%, or to less than 2 dynes/cm.
ALKATERGE® -T has been utilized as a corrosion inhibitor, an emulsifier, and as a dispersant in a variety of applications. When properly incorporated into a formulation, it can often perform all these functions simultaneously as well as other specific to particular systems. view less
