Desmodur® VKS 20

Desmodur® VKS 20 is a mixture of diphenylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate (MDI) with isomers and higher functional homologues (PMDI). It is a mixture of monomeric polyisocyanates that is suitable for combination with Baycoll® in the formulation of adhesives. It is a solvent-free, dark brown liquid of low viscosity at temperatures above 10°C that may partially crystallize at lower temperatures. This product has a vapor pressure at 20°C (MDI) of < 10^-5 hPa, an phenyl isocyanate content of max. 50mg/kg, and a viscosity (25°C) of 200 ± 40 mPa·s, and an NCO content of 31.5 ± 1.0%.

Desmodur® VKS 20 can be combined with Baycoll in the formulation of adhesives for bonding many materials, e.g. wood, metal and plastics. It is particularly suitable for combining with Baycoll in the formulation of reactive two-component adhesives and moisture-curing one-component adhesives. On account of the vapor pressure of MDI, especially at elevated temperatures, adhesives with free isocyanate groups can only be handled in work areas with adequate extraction.
