Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate is the stearyl ester of 18-ß-glycyrrhetinic acid. 18-ß-glycyrrhetinic acid is obtained by hydrolysis of glycyrrhicinate extracted from the roots of licorice (glycyrrhiza glabra). Since thousands of years licorice root is an established cure. Also the food industry is using the root for the production of licorice. The cosmetic industry is using different licorice derivatives because of their skin soothing efficacy. The multifunctionality of this active ingredient makes it so interesting for a number of cosmetic formulations particularly for After Sun- and After Shave Products.
