Skin autophagy is a naturally occurring detoxification process through which damaged cellular constituents are degraded and continuously renewed. Moreover, autophagy activation promotes melanosome degradation in keratinocytes. Because aged human skin is characterized by a significant impairment of the autophagic flux, its activation by Extremosio™ promotes beautification through removal and replacement of damaged skin proteins. In addition, the clearing of melanosomes through autophagy promotes a homogeneous skin color distribution. Trehalose is well known for its resurrection ability. It can be found in a wide variety of plants and animals that are able to withstand prolonged periods of desiccation, enabling their survival in the harshest environments.
