Whitbread Golding Variety (WGV)

Whitbread Golding Variety (WGV) is a hop variety that was originally bred in 1911 on land owned by a farmer named Whitbread. It was selected as a seedling and planted extensively during the 1950s, when verticillium wilt started to encroach on the Fuggles and Goldings. It is not a true Golding, but has a similar aroma. This hop provides a distinctive sweet fruit flavor in beer, similar to but generally more pronounced and robust than Goldings.
