When PELEMOL® ISL is in its unhydrolyzed form it functions as emollient and humectant, because of its ability to decrease the rate of transepidermal water loss through occlusion and its ability to bind water for the atmosphere and lower, more hydrated layers of the epidermis through hydrogen bonding with its free hydroxyl group.
This emollient not only provides moisturization through a semi-occlusive barrier effect, but also delivers the alpha-hydroxy acid lactic acid via a slow releasing owing to the skin's own natural esterases. It can be applied in skin creams, lotions, lipsticks, lip products, body lotions, bath gels, eye shadows, mascaras, blushes and cuticle treatments. view less
