On account of the polyether structure of this product, the resultant films are largely resistant to hydrolysis. Pigment preparations such as Bayderm® Colours B-TO and C-TO (Bayer) are recommended for colouring formulations. It is also possible to use standard pigments or pigment/extender combinations. The solvent resistance of films based on Desmolac® 4340 X/iB can be greatly improved by the addition of Desmodur® N 75 (10 to 20 %, calculated on the solid resin). This will result in post-crosslinking of the film with atmospheric moisture after 1 to 2 weeks. However, Desmodur® N 75 should not be added until just before application of the coating to prevent reaction with the isobutanol in the solvent mixture of the supply form. view less

In top coat formulations, Desmophen® PL 817 yields films with good surface hardness and matting. Generally speaking, Desmophen® PL 817 has good compatibility with a large number of physically drying binders (e.g. nitrocellulose). When combined with preferably Desmodur BL 4265, it yields one-component polyurethane coil coatings with a balanced hardness/flexibility ratio, good resistance to scratching and abrasion as well as excellent QUV/B stability. Dibutyltin dilaurate has proved suitable as the catalyst. The addition should be 0.1–1 %, calculated on the solid binder. The product can be combined with other blocked isocyanates and HMMM-type amino resins. However, such formulations do not generally achieve the same high surface hardness as is achieved with Desmodur BL 4265. view less

The OH terminated polyester chains are DMPA® Dimethylolpropionic acid initiated polycaprolactone. The combination of both hydroxyl and carboxyl functionality produces unique benefits and versatility. The acid group promotes water dispersability of the resin after neutralisation with a base or can improve adhesion to difficult substrates. This product has a melting point (DSC) of 59.3°C, a non-volatile content of 99% wt. min., a viscosity @ 60°C of 800-1000cP, and an acid equivalent weight of 935-1122g/eqv. Since no DMPA is required to formulate water dispersible pre-polymers, NMP may be reduced or eliminated from the formulations. Pre-polymers formulated with DICAP® products have very good solubility in monomers for hybrid applications and in acetone for solvent-free PUDs. Depending on the molecular weight of the DICAP® polyol and the formulating technique, hard films can be formulated for durable coatings or soft urethane polymers can be formulated for coating textiles and leathers.
