It is soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons and has no solubility in aliphatic hydrocarbons. This product has an equivalent weight of approx. 1310, a viscosity at 23°C of 17,500 ± 2,500 mPa·s, and a pour point of approx. -5°C. Combinations of Desmophen® 1700 with various polyisocyanates yield highly flexible coatings. For this reason, the product is normally used as the flexibilizing component in combination with other Desmophen® grades. In certain combinations, e.g. with Desmophen® 800, the addition of Desmophen® 1700 increases the toughness and resistance to wear and abrasion of the paint films. Such combinations can be used to coat furniture, floors and parquet. view less

It can also be used in combination with Desmodur® L and HL in the formulation of fast-drying two-component coatings. This product as a viscosity at 23°C of 3,000 ± 500 mPa·s, a non-volatile content (2g resin/2ml toluene/1h 125°C, convection oven) of 70±1%, and a flash point of approx. 32°C. Desmophen® 680 BA is a hard co-reactant for use with Desmodur® N. The drying properties of this combination are comparable with those of the acrylic Desmophen® resin/Desmodur® N systems developed specially for automotive repair paints. It is therefore particularly suitable for the formulation of air-drying automotive and industrial coatings. Coatings crosslinked with Desmodur® L and HL are particularly fast-drying, making them suitable for applications such as paper finishing. view less
